BlaZeon: The Bio-Cyborg Challenge

Bio-Cyborgs have a stranglehold on humanity, and it’s up to you to take them down with Garland, a spaceship that can take the form of enemy vessels. Initially, this seems like a basic horizontal space shooter. Y shoots single shots, X is rapid fire, and A/B is for special abilities. You die in one hit, and if you lose all your lives, you can continue from the beginning of the stage.
