Crystalis

In this excellent and full-featured overhead action RPG, the hero awakens from a high tech chamber within a cave and must set out to help eradicate the mutant monsters roaming the land, all while solving the mystery of the floating city. A healthy amount of equipment, puzzles, items, NPCs, and towns really make this feel more fleshed out than similar titles of the time. Talking with villagers is important to gain key clues and items.
