Awaken 4 is now available here at Embraceware.com. You may have noticed we have a new site design as well.
Some important notes on Awaken 4 for existing Awaken 3 users. Awaken 4 was a major rewrite in all areas and because of this you’ll have to re-add your alarms after updating. There was no clean solution to migrating due to the major changes. Awaken 4 requires Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger or Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard. Anyone still using Mac OS X 10.3 Panther should stay with Awaken 3. Our policy is to support the latest version of Mac OS X as well as the previous version.
Awaken 4 is a free update to all Awaken 3 users. You will be asked for your Awaken serial number after updating. If you have lost your serial number please try the serial lookup form on our support page: http://embraceware.com/support/
If your registration is not found please email us at support@embraceware.com and we’ll manually get it for you.
Check out Awaken 4 here:

Thanks go to all of the beta testers!!
PS> It would be great if you could let people know that you use Awaken via this site: iusethis.com

My god jerry its beautiful. I couldn’t ask for a better alarm clock app, I think you just put everyone else out of business, I would hate to be competing with this. Now the only question is, what will Awaken 5 hold? I don’t know if you can top this…

BTW your site is amazing. Excellent work all around!
January 27th, 2008 at 10:47 pm
Thanks very much Colin. We won’t be talking Awaken 5 anytime soon because there is still a ton of new features to come in Awaken 4. We’re just getting started

Hi Jerry great looking site! Also awaken 4 rocks good job.
But I think I found a bug: I’ve set a fade time for the alarm of 10 minutes, now when I snooze the alarm and it comes back it is at max volume. It would be better to start again with the fade in and maybe with the volume when someone snoozed it.
Anyway thanks for this nice piece of software!

@Dirk Sierd : it was for Tiger developper beta …
this is tiger’s dvd http://i21.ebayimg.com/04/i/000/a4/74/a314_1.JPG

@Sam - I picked the Tiger developer beta mainly for looks because of how you can see the Tiger stripes. The black disc was a little too generic for the small size. You are technically more accurate though.

Very nice!
About the new features coming to Awaken 4.0, love to hear such things but how about you bring us a NEW app!?
I have great confidence in your skills, and can’t wait to see more apps coming from Embraceware.
Not that i don’t appreciate that you put so much work in Awaken, not much developers put so much love in one app.
Thanks!

Hi!
Would it be possible to get a fix where the date could presented according to european standards. This is really no big deal. Just a minor costemtic thing on my part. But… Would be nice if it could be fixed. That is weekday-date-month-year. Thanks for an awesome app!

The new design for the site looks amazing, I love it, very reminiscent of Apple’s product pages, but it still has a personality of its own.
Yet I have to comment on the dock at the top of your new design. I’ve read people’s criticisms of the design of the Leopard dock and the perspective and at the bottom of my screen it doesn’t really bother me. But if you make it more 3D and at the top of the screen it looks really awkward.
Still, only a minor complaint. I’m a big fan of Awaken, keep up the great work. By the way, is Embraceware going to expand its catalog of software any time soon? I’m interested to find out what else can come from the minds behind Awaken.

Fantastic update!
?
One issue….do you need to double click the snooze button while in fullscreen mode?
February 4th, 2008 at 10:52 pm
The newest update - 4.0.11 has two “helps” in the menubar.
February 6th, 2008 at 7:40 am
Thank You for this update!!!! But please: insert to Awaken support for EyeTV!!!!!!!! Like Aurora app…
February 6th, 2008 at 12:04 pm
Great program! I totally rely on it to wake me up for school everyday and it hasn’t failed me - except when I leave the headphones plugged in, D’oh.
Anywho, I have an Idea:
Could the fullscreen mode allow the sizes and items (current time, Song, art, notes) to be movable and customizable like the interface from MainStage (part of Logic). Also could there be an option to mirror the fullscreen - so I can reflect it through a mirror and see the screen easier from my bed
Thanks!

Could you change the behavior of Awaken 4 to be more like 3 when you put over 60 minutes into the egg timer editor? I just noticed that I couldn’t do that anymore.
February 9th, 2008 at 5:03 pm
@Reverov - the double help menus will be fixed in the next update.
@photo678 - only a single click is required to snooze an alarm.
@MT - we are currently evaluating the demand for EyeTV. Thanks for your input!
@Reverov - sure, expect this in the next update.

Just one thing I noticed - having the “Fade-in” checkboxes (Volume and Brightness) in the general preferences creates for undesired results. For example, on school mornings I might want a fullscreen alarm with volume and brightness fading in. However, if I make another alarm to remind me to get gas, and I have it not go fullscreen (I just want it to go off in the window and kind of startle me :P), this alarm will also fade in both volume and brightness, which becomes really awkward when I’m int he middle of using my computer.
In summary, please put the 2 Fade-in checkboxes on the Alarm Editor sheet.
Thanks,
Brian
P.S. What beta testers?
February 11th, 2008 at 5:01 pm
I’d love to see the remote control support being more customizable. Since I often half-asleep accidentaly stop the alarm when I want to snooze, I’d like to have more control over the button assigments.
February 13th, 2008 at 7:29 am
Just wanted to mention that the volume of the computer doesn’t return to normal after all alarms. I don’t really remember which alarms cause this behavior but I’m pretty sure it has to do with the egg timer. This behavior might also happen with regular alarms as my roommate has mentioned this and he only uses regular alarms.
February 17th, 2008 at 2:14 pm
@Dexter - we’ll have this in Awaken 4.1
@Reverov - I’ll look into this. Let me know if you notice a pattern.
February 18th, 2008 at 9:29 pm
Jerry,
Like Reverov I have a problem with the volume not returning to normal. The pattern is very well-defined in my case, though, as the volume never returns to normal after an alarm. I used to use Awaken 3 and I did not have this problem.
Thanks

Jerry -
Anytime you need more beta testing remember you have a huge fan base at the MacHeist Forums!
Suggestion - YummySoup! has been asked for a cooking timer on the fullsize chef screen. I think integrating Awaken timers w/ remote control somehow would be killer for us cooks. My understanding is that the developer of YummySoup! is being recruited also for CookBook. There are probably several ways you could work together……
