We’ve expanded the full screen mode. You can still have full screen mode triggered by alarms and timers, but you can also have it displayed at anytime via the button on the main window, or from the view menu or even via an Apple Remote. Here is a shot of the new button:
We’ve updated the icon to play well with Leopard in extra detail:
In the last post I mentioned that the fading between normal and fullscreen mode could not be recorded by any of the screen recording apps so I just recorded a quick video of the sleep timer (blame the shake on caffeine):
The private beta will be available soon. If you’d like to get in it on it - send an email to jerrybrace@mac.com with “Awaken 4 Beta” in the subject. Thanks!

I’ve gotta say, not a big fan of the “Fullscreen” button just on the normal clock - I think it kind of disrupts the whole streamlined look of Awaken. Personally, I think just adding the options to do it on the Apple Remote, shortcut keys, or the View menu are more than enough. It really does look out of place on the normal clock (it looks perfect on the sleep timer and fullscreen sleep timer, though).
Excuse me, I meant that it would look perfect on the sleep timer window (but not on the clock :p). Possible in one of the bottom corners? And like I said before, the “Normal View” button looks great on the fullscreen view.
@Brian - I agree with you. I’m going to keep it on all of the fullscreen views and just remove it from the main window. It does look out of place there. Thanks for confirming what I thought - I was on the fence
The Icon looks superb and the fullscreen options are very nice. I agree the one fullscreen button on the main window does seem a little out of place, but if you want one easily available on the main screen you could set it as a button say near the Egg & Sleep timer. Otherwise a keyboard shortcut and the View menu will work fine.
I downloaded 4.0b from MacUpdate, I love it, but I found a small bug :
launching an egg timer or a sleep timer resizes Awaken’s window if it’s too small, which is OK.
but if I cancel that alarm, window is not resized to the previous size ! …
MacUpdate wasn’t suppose to post that version as it was for MacHeist only. But yes - that and a whole lot more will be fixed shortly. Expect 4.0.1 within 24hrs.
The Awaken 4.0 you are seeing on MacHeist is a very early build which does not have everything in it yet - such as volume and screen fading. Any missing features will be added via Awaken’s software update over the next few hours/days/weeks. Once we have everything added we’ll be releasing Awaken 4 officially here at Embraceware.
@ Brian - I want to get things feature complete first. Things should be all together in a couple days. Current users of Awaken would miss features - people who have never used Awaken would not. This is why there is no private beta yet and the download is only on MH. Stay tuned to the blog!
I’ve been a long-time fan of Awaken, and finally purchased it through the MacHeist offer…but I have a question.
Why did you take out features Jerry? I used the set system volume at time of alarm religiously, and it is so much easier than setting system volume before I go to sleep. What’s the deal?
Hmmm…one bug I found is that in 4.0.3 the gradual screen brightness increase option doesn’t work. In fact, the screen doesn’t even turn on unitl after the alarm is stopped
I like your program. I got your program though MacHeist and it’s a very nice looking UI. But I find myself going back to iTuneSleep often because off your sleeptimer. In iTuneSleep I have the option fade current track, that is perfect for falling to sleep listening to a podcast.
If in Music there was a option to select “current track” , with automatic length. Than your program will be perfect for me. And iTuneSleep will be gone from my harddrive.

so…no private beta
14 days will do fine

Also, I noticed that there’s no option to adjust the system and itunes volume at alarm time, which seems problematic.

it should look ok to add a full screen icon next to the egg timer and the sleep timer button, much like in iPhoto

hello Jerry,
What about auto resize Awaken’s window depending on how many alarms are set ? (Transmission does that, it’s pretty cool
Thanks,
Sam

@sam - nice idea - I’ll add it to the list. You’ll see this in an update soon.
