It occurs in either OS when the window is not as wide as the sheet it is spawning. If the Awaken window was resized wider you would see the regular slide down animation. I made the Awaken window appear at its smallest size in this video to demonstrate the resize effect at alarm time. Personally I'm not a fan of the sheet at all and the old animation just makes it seem more out of place. Looks good otherwise, keep up the good work.
