We’re back with another step down the road to Awaken 4.0.
In the video below you’ll notice a few things. The new alarm entry sheet is displayed and you see the playlist reloading in action and the overall improvement in ease of use over the current version of Awaken.
On the bottom of the Awaken window you will see the date and time for the next upcoming alarm. You can also click on this to toggle it to a countdown of hours, minutes, seconds. This is a great way to be sure that you have your alarm for the next day set correctly. The date display is smart enough to display “Today, Tomorrow” when appropriate.
We’ve added some animation at alarm time which slides the alarm listing off to the side. Similar to the flow of an iPod or iPhone. You’ll see more examples of this in other areas of Awaken 4.
Stay tuned for more! As always - your comments are welcomed!

I’d like to complement you on a job well done! Awaken is a great application. Two things to consider, though: First, I was hoping that for Leopard users you would switch to using the new different perspective folder icons. Second, I’ve always thought that the snooze button looked a little weird and would probably look a lot better if it only had the three Zzz:s and excluded the three dots trailing it. That would remove no clarity of function but make the button look less cramped.
Thank you

Gorgeous! One thing though; I really like being able to see the Stop Alarm Button highlighted in a colour so that I can find it easily in my half awake state having clambered out of bed. Is there any chance of moving the blue to the sleep and a red to the stop or something similar? Perhaps this could be in the preferences or something but I really would like this feature to be in there.. Thanks Jerry! I can’t wait for it’s release!!

@Georgie - yes, there will be some kind of color on the buttons mentioned. The video above was done just minutes after coding was completed. There are graphical edits to be done. Thanks for the great feedback as usual!

@Gabriel - I agree with you on the “zzz” button. You’ll see this updated in the next blog post. Thanks!

@Gabriel - I’m confused by your comment about the Leopard folder icons. There were no folders in the video above. Awaken uses system icons instead of its own when they are available. For example if you drag a folder in as a launch item - it correctly displays the folder icon used by the system. Maybe I misunderstood - I’d like to address what you’ve mentioned.

Jerry, this looks fantastic! I’ve been following Awaken 4 from afar and I’m really impressed by all you’ve done. Great work!

It is looking good Jerry, thanks for the video.
FYI… For whatever reason the video was not displaying in my Firefox browser. I found the source http://embraceware.com/video/Awaken4.mov and was able to watch it using this address. It does show up in Safari though.

Looking very awesome Jerry, can’t wait to get my hands on the new version. Hopefully all my G4/PPC issues will be solved. I think those might be my machine’s issues though.
Also, noticed a comment on another post where someone mentioned the full screen clock - that might be cool, but also would be cool to have a large floating clock window (HUD style) when in standard mode. Or both?
Either way, a giant on-screen clock to glance at when scrambling around getting ready to head out the door for work would be awesome. Currently I use the launch item feature to launch a program called Big Clock: http://cryptonictech.com/products.html#BigClock (PPC only).

I’ve been using Awaken every day since I got my mac, it’s the first program I bought and I couldn’t live without it! I have just received the beta of Awaken 4 from MacHeist and while 3.1.7 seemed perfect, 4 is even better, you’ve excelled yourself! One suggestion I do have though is that I would personally like to be able to set a sleep timer/egg timer to be able to run an application in the same way that you can with an alarm. This feature would be the icing on the cake for me as it would allow me to stop DVD’s playing without sleeping my mac,
Please keep up the good work.
