November 17th, 2007 at 10:47 PM • Posted in Awaken

Tonight we have the new alarm view ready for preview. We’ve applied some polish - let us know what you think. Awaken also offers a fullscreen view for alarms. We will be featuring that view in an upcoming post.

I would loose the reflection on the album. I like to see my album just as they were intended. When you start adding to the artwork it is hard to figure what was suppose to b there and what wasn’t. Other then that Jerry it looks stunning! Excellent work.

  2. Jerry Brace Says:

Thanks for that feedback Colin. I added that in to see what the response would be like. Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard does a similar thing with movie file icons (frame thumbnail with glare applied).

  3. Brian Says:

I would agree with Colin, too. Although it still might be cool to keep in, just a lot more subtle/transparent. However, I do think the reflection would look good in fullscreen where there is more space.

I actually really like the reflection on the album art though maybe that would be a better option for the preferences pane? I for one would certainly always have it enabled; part of the beauty of awaken is it’s stunning interface and for me the shine really adds to it.

    Jerry you are a marvel!

  5. Dylan Says:

I’m not sure about that highlight colour on the selected button, it looks too dark. Maybe add an outer glow instead? Also, when pushed the buttons should turn lighter rather than darker.

    Looks great otherwise.

Jerry — Brilliant work, yet again. I really like all of the improvements that you have announced for v4.0 thus far and I’m just as keen on the UI stuff as I am looking forward to the benefits from the time that you’ve put in under the hood. Speaking of UI, the only new element that I’m not sure about it the revised placement of the date under the time in the primary window. I can think of several reasons from a design perspective why you made the switch, but somehow, I miss having the time sitting by itself and never felt like the date–in its old spot on the left side of the window–was in any way out of place. Not a tragedy by any means, I just wonder what other users think. In theory the revision makes sense, but somehow the execution doesn’t feel right. Looking forward, as always, to the finished product. Keep up the great work!

    lookin’ good ;)
I agree with Dylan on the color. I would stay in the same color scheme(black) but lighter(grey) when selected..
as for the reflection on the album I think it might look good when full screen..
    ;)

  8. Dylan Says:

I would like an option to hide the clock. It seems a bit redundant since it’s already in the menubar,

  9. Brian Says:

    I like the little clock.

And you can hide the one in the menubar.

  10. Jerry Brace Says:

I’ll include an item on the “View” menu for showing/hiding the clock. Many like the clock because of the large type which allows it to seen from across the room. Others may have their Mac close enough so that it is not needed. A preference for this makes perfect sense. Maybe in the future we’ll code it so that the iSight camera can detect how far away you are and adjust the preference for you ;)

I’m currently finishing up a few items to have ready to show in a blog post by tonight.

Thanks again for all of the great feedback guys. The more input I can get during the development phase the better. It really makes things better for everyone.

  11. Brian Says:

A blog post with a beta tonight maybe? ;)

  12. Mikey Says:

I like how the new interface is shaping up. The only thing I’ve got an issue with is the typography. I’d like to see how it’d look if you increased the leading on the time display — it’s a little cramped right now. Also, I could live without the album title — but if it must stay, maybe you could stick the album title next to the artist rather than above.

“I’m currently finishing up a few items to have ready to show in a blog post by tonight.”

    No post Jerry? :(

I’d love to see another snooze “button” that would let you choose a dynamic snooze instead of the default from prefs. It’d pop up a menu with 1, 2, 5, 10, 15, 20, 30… so you could say snooze for 5 min or 10. The default big “snooze X” is great, but to have another option would be wonderful.
