It would be nice for a return of the use current playlist option in the alarm and sleep dialogs.

I see Hubert on the frontpage… So, duos that mean Awaken is gonna be in the loot on MacHeist?

So a couple of weeks ago I got myself a nice little Mac Mini for the bedroom to act as a music centre and was looking for exactly this app’s functionality. How happy was I to find it! It’s so beautiful on so many levels, not just the pretty!
Think I must have d/led 3.0 beta 1 and was pretty happy with it until it started crashing horribly and acting very weird. Dismayed, I put up with it until the trial ended. Was going to report all the issues I’ve been having but on checking out the site I find there’s been 5 updates in two weeks!! Now that’s some agile development.
Anyway, have grabbed beta 6 and paid up purely on the amount of work that is obviously going into getting this great little app stable.
Only one feature I would love to see added.. the ability to set a screen brightness for the sleep timer, similar to this app:

Hi James - that is a great idea. If I can’t fit this into 3.0 it will definitely be in 3.1. At this point I wouldn’t want to delay the 3.0 final release any further. I’ll try my best to see if I can get this into the next beta in the meantime.
If you have any problems with beta 6 - please let me know so that I can address them ASAP.
Thanks,
Jerry

Thanks Jerry, seems stable so far and appears to have lost its penchant for eating all of my RAM.
Had a couple of other ideas for features:
Would be nice to be able to select an EQ preset such a ‘loudness’ setting to boost the bass when listening music at low volume. Basically so I don’t have to get out of bed ten minutes after setting a sleep timer to hit the button on my amp
This could probably be done fairly easily IF iTunes exposes a hook to allow you to set its EQ, but I fear it may not as I haven’t seen any other third party app that can set iTunes’ EQ. Another way might be to do some crazy audio capturing like Audio Hijack and then applying some sort of CoreAudio effect to the output. Though that route sounds like a lot of work to me for a small feature.
Another nice touch would be to make the dock icon live so that the clock hands display the actual time and the alarm hand indicates when the next alarm will go off. Not of huge benefit I admit would would be a lovely bit of attention to detail (which I must say you have an exceptional eye for Jerry!).
Anyway, just idle thoughts I thought I would throw into the pot.

Thanks for the awesome feedback James. About the lack of RAM eating -there were two memory leaks that apparently have been in Awaken since version 2.0. This was corrected in 3.0 Beta 5. After I fixed those I ran Awaken through every possible profiler to determine if there were any other leaks - there weren’t.
If anyone has ANY bugs/crash reports with beta 6 - please let me know ASAP so that it can be addressed before 3.0 becomes final. Thanks!
About your requests James - those EQ settings will come in a later version for sure. I was just playing around with it and it’s doable. I just wouldn’t want to delay 3.0 any further at this point - but look for it in the near future.

Good to hear that the EQ settings are doable and I understand why you need to put a freeze on new features for 3.0. Roll on the gold!

Hey,
I enjoy watching my iTunes movies while going to sleep. Perhaps, you could add some xtra functionailties too the sleep timer, too allow for video feedback. Off the top of my head, the ability for the app to put the computer to sleep at the end of the currently playing movieā¦
As previously mentioned, I think that brightness controls would be an excellent feature.

Elliot

Hi ! There seems to be a slight problem with the playlist playing. If I change the playlist from one to another the change doesn’t occur; even if I see the new choice as being selected in alarm playlist it still plays the earlier one. I could probably get it to change by deleting the preference file but it should work without doing so. The replacement playlist is an intelligent one; not sure if that’s a factor… iMac 24″ 10.4.8 iTunes 7.0.2 Hope this helps

Huberts says “looking in the right place”
Awaken is nice app too.

Well, I seem to be having lots of problems with Awaken still. Sometimes it wakes, starts iTunes play and then stops for no reason after 10-15 minutes. Sometimes it doesn’t wake my Mac at all. And sometimes it works fine.
Yesterday it was fine - today it didn’t wake up at all.
I tried deleting all files Spotlight could find with embraceware or awaken - a fresh start.
I have a G5 1.6 with 10.4.8

Thanks for telling me about that Jamie - I’ll have that fixed tonight. It was missed when I redesigned the site.
